Nathalie Worthington

Nathalie’s art education began at the Cleveland Museum of Art at age five. Her family recognized that her favorite past time was drawing and painting, and encouraged her passionate interest in art. Sketching and making art using any medium became the springboard for her life, and she won numerous art awards throughout her career.

She tells of a daunting artistic challenge when she was a teenager, contemplating the forest next to her home. “How can I express the view of all these trees with light filtering through their infinite numbers of leaves — how can anyone possibly express this detail in a painting!” Her family has numerous books on the Impressionist painters. She recalls finding “The Age of Impressionism” book on the shelf and in its pages found the answer to expressing nature’s complexity and light! With an impressionistic approach to her paintings, her style became recognizeable and she immersed herself in expressing with paint on canvas, the world of color, light, perspective, and balance.

Nathalie looks for the secrets of nature that might emerge as scenes in her work. The images that grow through encounters, realizations, and relationships, become the vital source for meaning and for the paintings she creates. The precious beauty of nature, from woods to ocean, farms and their inhabitants, and scenic vistas, suggests a presence that Nathalie endeavors to show in her paintings. Sometimes the landscapes whisper from an inner source and a very personal “soul scape” emerges. Even interior scenes and figures are evoked from these inspirations.

“Something I see resonates with me because of its reflected or inner light and I’m compelled to make a painting of it. I begin with a plan for a painting and set out on a journey that has a beginning, and then a process, but no pre-determined destination. The result is the furthest thing in my mind, and my emotions flow freely onto the surface. Brushes fly, colors fuse, and shapes and tones dance together, revealing on the canvas the vision that compelled me to try. Sometimes it’s not easy. When I get near to completion I study the painting with a critical eye that guides the finishing touches; an enjoyable challenge. When a painting is finished it is speaking to me the complete story of that germinal beginning. This is a truly engaging process!”

The pure act of painting is her passion, and her style is representational, often vivid, usually bold and always colorful. Over the years, Nathalie has explored a wide range of pallet and subject matter, always seeking the mystery and light of her focal points.

Nathalie’s paintings are included in many private and public collections internationally.
